More About Michael Uhl

When I'm not riding or planning a ride, I work as a program manager at Red Hat in Raleigh, NC (USA). I focus on Red hat - vendor relations, especially as related to cloud computing projects, e.g., Amazon Web Services (AWS). I am an AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate.

As a program manager, I drive multiple, concurrent, related projects and initiatives with teams distributed around the world.

Before working at Red Hat, I worked briefly at Cisco Systems Inc. in Research Triangle Park, NC (USA). Before that, I served 22 years as a program manager on site at the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Research Triangle Park, NC.

Beginning with Martin Marietta in April 1995, then with the newly merged Lockheed-Martin Marietta company--called Lockheed Martin--and interrupted by a short term with SAIC as part of a contract adjustment--and finally with Leidos, I supported the EPA's National Environmental Supercomputing Center, which EPA renamed the Environmental Modeling and Visualization Laboratory (EMVL).

EMVL provides two broad areas of scientific computing support: High Performance Computing (HPC) resources and technical staff; and scientific visualization and modeling programming support.

2000-2017, I served as manager of EMVL's scientific visualization lab. In 2017, my team of 14 supported 15 different scientific research projects.

  • Program Management Professional (PgMP) [2011], and
  • Agile-Certified Practitioner (ACP) [2016]

Entrepreneurship and Technology Commercialization

In 2009, I completed my Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization* from North Carolina State University (NC State).

*It has been renamed to Entrepreneurship and Technology Commercialization.
