NC100 Counties Ride: May 1, 2011 - October 15, 2011

In 2011, I participated in a riding program called NC 100, sponsored by the Raleigh Chapter of the Harley Owners Group (HOG). During the summer, I participated in a riding challenge sponsored by 29 North Carolina and South Carolina Harley-Davidson dealerships, called the 2011 Carolinas Tour. The dealers Tour program ended in September, but I continue to use the dealers’ stamps from my “passport” as evidence of my having ridden to the respective county for that dealer, in support of the NC 100 program.

For the NC 100, the concept is simple: one has to ride through all 100 North Carolina counties within a one-year period, usually April - March. I didn’t need nearly that long; I completed all 100 counties by the afternoon of October 15. However, I did return to some counties in March to take pictures for those counties where I didn't take any: Carteret, Jones, and Pamlico. I may also subsitute pictures of me, my bike, and an appropriate sign for the dealer passport pages for counties such as Catawba, Craven, Cumberland, Forsyth, etc.

I needed 18 well-planned rides covering more than 3,000 miles to complete the NCC 100 challenge. I want to recognize and thank my wife, Sam, who accompanied on many of the rides, including almost all of the mountain counties. (There were several cold mornings out there.) I also want to thank my daughter, Meghan, and friend Mike Russo, who also assisted me in completing this big but fun effort in 2011.
